“We should have a great fewer disputes in the world if words were taken for what they are, the signs of our ideas only, and not for things themselves.” John Locke
All living creatures, from a little bee to a human being as it is known today communicate through language. Of course, not all creatures communicate through the same way, not are all languages the same. Did you know, for instance, that bees communicate through their instinct? When a bee discovers nectar or pollen and returns to where it lives, it begins to dance, going around in narrow circles, thus letting the other bees know that pollen or nectar has been discovered. Amazing, right? Human beings, however, are characterized by their ability to think reasonably, and this reflects in language. Human language, a much more complex one, is formed by socially accepted rules that include a word’s meaning, combination of words, social implications, and other elements like articulation and modulation, voice and fluency, etc.
Human beings have the disadvantage or the blessing, depending on your point of view, of communicating in different tongues. We talk through language, but languages vary depending on where the person is located. Spanish classes in Kansas City are very popular, because the Hispanic population is a fast growing segment in the United States. The benefits of being able to communicate in Spanish apart from English are innumerable, and have to do with business, social interaction, understanding of the world, travelling, and many more areas. The globalized world requires multilingual people to take care of production and business, technology and global relations. People take French classes in Kansas City as well, since it is one of the most used languages for business (besides, they enjoy being able to speak one of the most beautiful sounding languages in the world). French, along with English, is the official working language of the United Nations, UNESCO, NATO, and the European Community among others.
One language alone is simply not enough to get around. Besides, teaching methods have been improved to make learning an easier and more natural process. Native French speaking teachers provide students with a more realistic insight into the language cultural background, and lessons can be taken any day of the week at any time of the day. It seems like it is the perfect moment to study languages.
